The events in this book happened while I was away at college, so it was very interesting for me to read about everything that was going on in town at that time. When I graduated, I actually got a job at the Coventry Police Department, but all the excitement/drama had settled down.I found it an interesting read, because I knew most of the people mentioned in the book. The book also clarified some of the gossip and rumors that were flying around town. This story is told from the author's point of view. I believe he is honest and candid and he even admits, he made some bad decisions. Things were very loose back then, so I can understand why things happened the way they did. I enjoyed this book, because the author got into specifics with stories, quotes and events. His descriptions were so vivid, that you can actually picture where the events took place in town and the stories have logic to them. The author uses his feelings, beliefs and his past actions in describing the events and explains why he made the decisions he made. This is a great book to read if you want to learn about the history of Coventry, Rhode Island or better yet, if you enjoy reading about small time politics in a small state. This book confirms that Rhode Island was and is a very corrupt state!Product details

This book was very informative.I come from this town and know most of the people mentioned.It is to bad that the corruption did not stop after Mr. Simmons left.We need more men like Mr.Harv Simmons. Thank you for trying to make our town a better place to live.
I found this book very eye opening. It explains many things about my hometown and has opened my eyes to what is going on around me.
Very disorganized accounting of what transpired during this period. I have lived in the town he writes about all my life and am somewhat familiar with the political corruption during that period. After reading this piece of garbage, now I understand what the fuss was about and why he ended up being kicked off the force. One of the most disgusting things about the book is that the author is clearly homophobic and believes that homosexuals are also pedophiles. Most of the information in the book seems to have no other purpose other than to drop names and attempt to damage the reputations of those who disagreed with him or angered him in some way. Most of the accountings come off like gossip. Some of the accountings are irrelevant and were better left unpublicized. The author is quick to accuse others of having bad judgment and seems pretty arrogant in thinking that his actions were beyond question. I stopped reading about 3/4 of the way through the book and threw it in the trash.
Some very interesting stories particularly if you are from the Coventry, Rhode Island area and remember some of the people involved. Thought it would focus more on the murder and police cover-up. Not particularly well written or organized particularly at the end.
Wonderful book. Would highly recommend to everyone interested in the life of a police officer and a successful man.
This book tells of the political struggles in a small town and the need for power by the politicians.
It also tells how the politicians tried to control the actions of the police department but the Police Chief would not let them do that.
It documents the corruption of its politicians and holds nothing back about the persons depicted in the book. I highly suggest reading this book if you have any interest in small town back room political antics.
